Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

air condition wires and plugs ?

Postby Roger27TBB » 19 Jul 2015 14:52

Hi all,
my refilled AC doesn`t work, because the magnetic clutch of the AC-Compressor get no Power when i switched on the AC and the inner blower motor.
I have the car owned 1 Year ago. It is the 1980-th USA Model with FI.
The AC wasn`t in use before because of the old coolant.
I suppose that a relais or some wires are missing or not connected.
Near the Dryer there is a plug with two doublewires (look at Pic.1)
with colour lightgreen, the other with grey/red and under the dashboard
(look at Pic.3)is a plug with black, the other with red/white without connection.
Does anyone knows where are they needed for.
Pictures from the connetions for AC could help.

Thanks for replies
Greetings from Roger27TBB (Germany)

If you could post a second picture of the plug you are showing in the engine bay I could orient myself a little better. All of AC plugs in the engine bay should be near the dryer and the high pressure cut off unit on the left side of the engine near all the light plugs.

I'm sorry to say I can't recognize any of that system. My '76 California car came with AC not working and I managed to sort the electrics. But yours is completely different. However, FI Spyder on this list will surely chime in soon. He has your system.

The double red/white and black wires in centre console is a spare 12V and ground. I had a blue wire plugged into the 12V which then went to external circuit board, then to radio. I think you can use it for such things as a powered antennae etc. (which mine didn't have being stock). Not sure about the connector under the relays off hand. I'll have a look tomorrow.

That plug you show below the dryer is not connected to anything in mine as well. Be forewarned my A/C is not operational. When I bought it the belt was off the pump and the reason given is because of as squealing sound when turned on. I never got it working because a 134 conversion would have to be done here in Canada(costly) and I don't need it as it rarelt goes over 80F here (except for the previous 2 1/2 months of this year. The idle solenoid at the throttle butterfly was missing. What I've read it is used for carb models they never mention FI in the same breath. Does the FI use it or does the ECU automatically compensate the idle? I was wondering if this connection is used for the solenoid in carb cars?

The power for the magnetic clutch runs through the over/high pressure refrigerant sensor which is located behind the left headlight. I would check to see that you are getting power there first.

Thanks for your replies.
The temperatures here in Southern Germany were today 86-90F, two weeks ago 95-102F. So i went to work by bike (2 miles).
It`s the best weather to have a ride with the open TR, but i won`t risk it
anymore to drive with my damaged gearbox as i need to. The bearing of the mainshaft makes noises and changing the 3. to the 4. gear is scratching a bit on the cogwheel. Before that happened last year a "specialized Garage" changed a damaged clutchplate. A piece of metal from the springcage broke away and causes a damaged bearing on the mainshaft. This is more necessary to do i think.
Back to the topic.
I will try to find the problem also with the ownwers workshop manual.
