Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Hazard switches-early and late--Q?

Postby Howard722 » 29 Jun 2015 18:20

There are two styles of hazard switch.
Early has the triangle symbol on the slider button, later has the symbol on the warning light--BUT are they interchangeable i.e is the the plug in part the same for both? :?
Enjoy & regards

I have two hazards switches, one from a 1977 car with the triangle on the switch and the other is from a 1981 car and it too has the triangle on the switch, both of these are interchangeable in the two different wiring looms I have, so there is a good chance that the will plug in to the same wiring?

As both your switches are the early type (from your description) doubtless they would fit either of your looms-question is--would the later switch (triangle on the lamp) also fit and function correctly? I think the later switch is probably used from 1982 on. :?:

That I am unsure of, it looks like both my cars were the early versions ('77 and '81 use the same switch) I should have thought that Triumph weren't in a good financial position at the time to go to the expense of changing a switch and having the wiring loom to the switches altered? My guess would be that the switch was from a different supplier at the time that was cheaper than their previous supplier (somebody was thinking 'savings')!! But it still had the same fitting to fit the existing loom? Well that's my logical way of thinking
But then I have been known to be wrong......Many times
