Replacement Springs

Postby Howard_B » 12 Jun 2015 17:05

As some of you know I use my 7 quite enthusiastically. Unfortunately the standard replacement front springs I fitted 6 years / 30k miles ago have gone soft as have the rear springs which were replaced again about 3 years ago.

Can anyone recommend a source of better quality standard springs or NOS that will last longer than this?

Thanks

Howard

PS Its good to see the forum back on the new site

Howard, don't you have spring makers around your area? If the spring is not rusted out, it only requires to be heated to the right temperature, have the free length reset, & be quenched, to restore the full temper to it.

We have some large spring works, but also have small shops with a furnace about the size of a couple of wall ovens in many suburbs & country towns. They are capable of resetting our springs.

I had my 7s original springs done by a little 2 man shop in our town, about 12 years ago, & it is still spot on ride height.

I had the 8s done at a large works a couple of years later, because I had them making new heavier anti roll bars for both cars. These are all still working fine.

Have the same problem with my springs - Revington TR have a good selection, might be worth ringing up a couple of suppliers and asking them?

Hasbeen

Sadly that sort of business is not easy to find in the UK nowadays - its all health & safety or other regulations that have caused many of the small companies to close up, but thanks for the recommendation from down under.

Mak's suggestion of Revingtons has come to me from a couple of sources and having looked at their website I will give them a call in the morning

Cheers

Hi,
There's a good spring maker near Chichester called Faulkner's Ph 01243 543049 this was thier number a few years
back they do have a good web site. I lived in the UK for 20 years and always used them for springs for the race cars.
Regards Scott.
