You are right to be be careful, they can break easily, I broke one myself. Main thing is to support it properly underneath and close to the spindle before pressing it off. Needs something like some thick wall tube that fits as close over the bearing as possible so it keeps the pressure near to the shaft. Don't just attack it with a hammer!
