I noticed that the center console and under the driver seat seems to get a little hot. I that normal?

The 8 has an aluminum sheet material stuck to the underside of the tunnel. It must have been getting very hot before this went on. Even with this the tunnel used to be quite hot to touch the carpet. You would not have held the gearstick long term, it was hot to hang on to.

I believe this was heat from the engine & exhaust, not the gearbox. After getting the engine to run satisfactorily cool, I have not noticed the tunnel getting hot.

Sean, my friend, yes it is normal for that area to get hot. The issue is the lack of an effective, if any at all, insulation on the underside of the transmission tunnel area. Then there's the small matter of the heat radiating up from the muffler and/or catalytic convertor. Those poor souls who drive with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car miss out on this bun warming experience.

You need a V8 in your life there Mildred. That'll keep both of your buns/bums warm! [:D]
