Curious about Saab Upgrades for TR7

Postby RAC68 » 29 Jun 2014 12:00

Hi All,

Owning a Saab 99 and 900 prior to having my TR7 for the past 25 years, I have known and wondered what, if any, Saab engine improvements could be used on the TR7. I appreciate that they started with a shared engine design but then followed diverging development paths, however, has anyone taken advantage of some of the Saab changes and, if so, which changes (or even a total engine replacement)?

Just wondering?

I suspect not as many as one might think. The contract was for 30,000 engines supplied by Triumph, then they built them themselves. The for the next generation they used some of the dimensions but little else and the next was so far removed. Because they didn't just drop it in but turned it around (put it in backwards) I suspect there is precious little.
