FHC Value?

FHC Value?

I'm thinking of getting another FHC having sold my last (much missed) one a few years ago. What are peoples thought on value? I've seen some DHC's on ebay for around £10,000 - the cars are indeed lovely but compared to similar cars of the period (e.g. a Lancia Beta Coupe) this does seem rather hopeful, are people paying this much?

Any help gratefully received!

For 10grand it would need to be something special.
dhc's seem to sell easyer and for more than fhc's and I can sort of see way (I've wish mine was a drop head for the last couple of weeks [:D])
I think 5 grand should get you a nice car, prices for modified cars (v8's etc) are higher than for more original cars and I can't see that changing any time soon.
All classics are going up in price and seem a good investment at the moment, I mean how much fun can you have with an isa?
We've got a car at work that has gone up by 50k ish in a year!!!

All classics are starting to rise in value, good fhc are making more than dhc at the moment due to rarity, original cars according to Mike brewer and co at the restoration show at the NEC in April are commanding 30% more than a modified car, people want good original cars with a history. How much to pay is what it's worth to you.rough cars are selling for less and rightfully so, as it costs you more in the end to restore it than if you pay the higher price

Okay,I agree for £10,000 whatever you buy would have to be of the highest quality or a real rarity. Where I disagree with you is the value between the FHC and DHC, and modified cars being worth more than an original unmolested car. Although I agree this was once the case, it is most certainly not anymore. The gap between the FHC and DHC has closed massively over the last couple of years and now share equal parity. And most TR7/8 enthusiasts are now restoring or seeking out, or even returning there modified cars back to original. I have seen some very early original coupes changing hands for very big money in private deals between fellow enthusiasts recently, amounts that would of been unthinkable even a couple of years ago. There will always be a place for a modified car in the wedge world, but it will never, in my opinion, be worth more, or more interesting than an original car.

The best cars are fetching good money, the price guides in some popular magazines need to take a proper look at TR7 and TR8 values because they are way out of touch.

If you want a challenge you can still pick up a project whether FHC or DHC for a few hundred pounds. If you want to get it to the standard of the best cars around be prepared to spend, spend and spend some more. Many give up on the challenge though or run out of money.

Think about that £10000 Convertible. Personally I think it's worth every penny if you want a top car that needs nothing and looks like the day it came out of the showroom.
It would cost you £15000 plus and four years to achieve that from a £1500 purchase. Instant gratification is the norm now.

If the £10K Drop Head is Silver and based in North Kent, then I believe Replic8 has first-hand knowledge of it, having been to view the car before buying his Fixed Head.

Not the case here. A nice V8 conversion will double the value if a 7, but they are getting very hard to sell.

One 7 DHC we looked at over 3 years ago has come down in price by $6000 from what I considered a reasonable price, & is still on the market.

A mate has a good DHC sprint on the market for about half of what it would have brought 5 years ago, & not a single enquiry in about 5 months.

I would be lucky to get a third of what I have spent on mine in the last 3 years alone. Good thing I don't want to sell it.
