yesterday when driving my tr7 it smelt like something was burning, then almost right away I heard a noise and pulled over , I thought I blew fan belt but that was there and everything looked ok, I waited awhile then started up to see what would happened and nothing did car started right away and sounded good, only problem now is the ING light stayed on but car got me my 5 miles home, checking today bat is only reading 11 volt and gets no better with car running, I removed alt. and it will turn 1 way but it does not turn the other is that normal, I have a spare and it turns both ways thanking u in advance john

It is not normal to turn only one way, possibly one of the bearings has gone bad and it wedges itself. the ign light is on because it is not charging. Put on your spare alternator and get the bad one rebuilt.
I actually had a piece of my brush holder break off and it wedged itself between the alternator stator and rotor, mine would turn one way,and not the other, unfortunately it would only turn the wrong direction, I had to pull my belt off to it the 2 minutes home.

after using 3 old alt. to make 1, I am back on road but it is raining and too cold to go for drive , so I wonder how I made out, i ordered a ac delco that is supposed to match up with 36 amp, I had to redrill and retap the 1 that I am using so I think it will be a good idea to have new 1 on hand, thinking bad bearings in old alt was squealing noise I heard when clutch was in or out thanks john

I used on from a Saturn, fitted with a Ford v-pulley. Dropped in like it was supposed to be there. 80 amps if you ever added more electronics.
