I'm thinking of maybe getting an of the peg s/s down pipe and then having the rest custom made to my own spec. Have to get a quote first as I've no idea how much this will cost compared to the other options.

I'd have a word with Charlie at Pro Speed in Cardiff to see what they can offer http://www.pro-speedexhausts.com/pages/ ... index.jspx

Out of the several phone calls to s/s exhaust suppliers I made, he was the only one to listen to what I wanted: single pipe 2 box V8 free flow system with a throaty rasp under acceleration but free from any motorway cruising speed boom. I also wanted the system tucked up and away from the speed bumps that plague my area.

For about the same cost of an off the peg system, he made a custom s/s system on the car to fit my existing tubular manifolds.

It was worth the drive from NW London all the way down to Cardiff and back again, a happy customer.

yeah i'm not so sure the rear box does much other than resonate the sound. One of my friends (bendder on this forum) did the same mod as you , and I think my car is louder.

Parts list just calls them silencers (English for mufflers?) but I was always under the impression the the middle one is always the resonator and the rear one is always the muffler. One those cars with out two the rear one is always called the muffler. A resonator is a (usually) low restriction silencer that muffles the sound in a more narrow band and can "rattle" when used alone which is why it is used in conjunction with the muffler which muffles over broader RPM and is the rear one.
