Clutch Fork Question

I already had two studs there as part of the attaching mechanism but they weren't precise enough to get the shaft started.

I made this simple tilting table that attaches to an engine crane. Lift the car on the hoist, strap the gearbox to the table, tilt and lift it into place.

I make up a slightly shonky cradle to go on the floor jack, [which sort of worked], while you produce a thing of beauty.

Wow: I am basically trying to find enough pieces of 2x4 to build a little cradle that will sit on top of a jack. And trying to get enough blocks together to get the car high enough off the ground. But at least its in a garage with a concrete floor. The last clutch I did I had to shovel the snow off that car and lay on ice the whole time I was under it. Not fun.

Here is another variation for lifting the gearbox to the correct height to align with the engine. You work the crane through the hole in the tunnel.

I'd try that with a Spitfire were you can lower the whole transmission in from the top through the huge transmission tunnel but I wouldn't try it myself.

So what could possibly go wrong? I opened the box from my clutch kit to find a Borg & Beck pressure plate, and a Japanese Aisin clutch disc with the wrong spline, for a main shaft about a quarter inch bigger than the TR7. Not even close. "Oops How did that get in there? We'll send you the right disc as soon as possible."

I've always used this method for removing and refitting the gearbox/transfer case assemblies form Landrovers S1, S2 and S3.
