Accuspark electronic ignition

Postby moodyblue » 28 Dec 2013 17:48

I tried fitting a new electronic ignition kit today to a spare distributor so it would be ready to fit next week. The bad news for me is that the kit doesn't fit. It's the correct part number from Accuspark and has the AC Delco instructions with it. One of it's metal base holes aligns with the back points hole and the other end lines up with the condenser hole. However this forked end is dogleged an will not allow the module to be fitted straight and flush with the delco baseplate. It also looks like there should be two screws to hold the module to it's base but it looks like it's just glued in place. Has anyone out there in wedgeland had this problem with their accuspark kits?
Sorry about the quality, shockingly bad camera.

If it's a camera and not a cell phone, it should have a macro setting (icon often a flower) so it keeps in focus when closer than 3 feet.

Just a bad camera.
The baseplate shown in the picture is flat and the one on my car has a section which is bent down where the condenser fits, hence the dogleg on the accuspark module base. I just stuck it in the vice and flattened it out and it fitted. Both distributors are from 1980 cars, you just can't be sure of anything when it comes to good old BL cars.
Now it's fitted and my hands are red raw, just hope it runs ok as I need it for work next week. Deep joy![B)]

I'm sure I thought I had the same problem but I'd just put the pickup in the wrong place. At first I thought I'd got a different distributor but went in okay after trying again.

Thanks for the pics. I think it's in the same place as yours (using the condenser screw hole) but it would only fit after I straightened the metal base of the module. I got it all sorted today, thank goodness, I even managed to feed the wires under the baseplate. Setting the timing was a real pig, you think you get it then tighten it up and its off, again! The back of my hands couldn't take any more punishment so I just settled for around 9 BTDC at 1000rpm and it's running well.
