Nasty noise when steering wheel is turned

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Well I got half a result tonight!

I greased the (polyurethane) rack bushings with marine grease (as recommended by the bush manufacturer) and adjusted the clamps tight.

All the knocks have gone from the front suspension, I can go from lock to lock without any noise.

However, the pulling that is dependent on which way you leave the driveway is still there.

Think I'll strip down the struts next.

I think the only thing you can do is tear down the whole front end, pay detailed attention to all moving parts, adjust what needs to be adjusted, replace any bushings (original rubber) preferably with poly, check for slop/wear and replace those parts that need it. If this works you may not know what fixed it but it will be good to go for a long time to come. While you're at it POR-15 everything, wash out those wheel wells really good and apply a fresh coat of underseal. Mind you you won't do this on a weekend so you need a daily driver.

Yes Hasbeen, almost tight is right as that's what I get when I tighten them, the washer still spins.
Keep us posted on any developments Mark H, goodluck[:)]
