Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

ok, in the nearish future I hope to start doing some work on my car heading toward reinstating it to its original blue, but under bonnet/in boot/interior I want to do myself to save a few pennies and to get things actually moving.

these areas I will rattle can paint so wondering where the best place is if anywhere to get the best colour match. car should be taihiti blue if I remember rightly, will also be sourcing red carpets and a new headlining eventually too... any words of wisdom much appreciated....[:D]

What you would spend on rattle cans would probably buy a little compressor and cheap spray gun that you will have for the future then.

you will get a much better finish & control.

Hellfrauds will make you up rattle cans to a specific colour - but not inexpensive. When you use them - be sure to 'rattle' them well, and warm them in a bucket of hot water before use.

I did my passenger door and looks OK, just some difference in texture. Hard to simulate thermoplastic acrylic (TPA) paint where they sprayed it on then heated it in an oven to give the smooth shine. Not cheap as I used 6 cans on it. I would rent/buy a gun and get some proper auto paint. Still a lot cheaper than a 5 to 7 thousand paint job.[:p]

Dave, I recently sprayed the inner wings on my Pageant blue car with an aerosol, it was only supposed to be a temporary job. I removed all the parts from the inner flitch panels and used a can from local car spares. Im pleased with the job and my keen eyed son Robert thought Id had it resprayed. The secret is in preparation and also make sure you shake the can well.

I do have a hvlp gun in the flat but it states more for uses other than a car but may give it a try, was after rattle cans to start the resurrection to blue that I could do bit at a time and get the outer sprayed by a garage, but I guess I could try getting some practise on the inner panels and then try a bootlid or something....... hmmmmm got me thinking now.......[:p]

I brush painted the engine compartment with cellulose, 3 coats then flatted back to a smooth finish.
