BMH and TR7 panel manufacture.

Too many people duplicate work that others already have done ... if you're having something remade then tell us about it! Success and Disasters, they are all useful to know about!

BMH and TR7 panel manufacture.

Puzzled how Classic Car Weekly (18/07/2018) arrive at a figure of 2000 TR7's. Surely BMH exported panels. On line resources suggest there are around 3k TR7's remaining as taxed or SORN in the U.K. However I understand that 85% of production was exported so assuming similar conditions that would leave about 17,500 cars outside the U.K. Thus potentially in excess of 20k cars would be affected. I wonder how much of this is a knee jerk reaction to concerns about quality. Fortunately all my panels are original but If I'm correct the BMH front wings which must have been a good seller needed reworking before they would fit, something that always puzzled me. Nevertheless there seems to be no problems with a range of other panels they make for the TR7. supercass

There are more TR7/8's showing up at car shows every year indicating they are starting to come out of the woodwork or should I say barnwork. As to panel quality I read and I think it was Robsport that indicated that the right rear sill would not fit right and need some fettling (a British word meaning "apply hammer"). I too could never figure out why panels wouldn't fit as well as original factory ones. Are they not using the original factory tooling?

Did they ever fit really well, or did the factory own a few hammers too.

As for numbers, we had a birthday party for the TR7 a few years back, at the Queensland branch of the Triumph Sports Owners Club of Aust. Queensland is a big state, & we know there are a couple of 7s in northern parts, a thousand miles or more away, but not that many.

We managed only 13 cars, & 2 were race cars on trailers.

We had 10 at our Brits on the Beach on July 8th club car show out of 210 cars, the most we ever had and that didn't include a couple more I know of that are in restoration (procrastination) mode.
