Another body repair question....

The seam that joins the lower front part of the rear wing to the top of the sill is a problem area but I can't quite get my head around how this is repaired. I presume the metal of the bottom part of the wing folds inward as does the top of the sill but how is this joint accessed for either drilling out the old welds or re-welding in the new repair panel ? I won't actually be doing it myself but I'm curious to know how the body shop will tackle this....

I assume the factory had a really long spot welder to make those joins.

On my car, I was replacing the wing, so I just cut it away. To replace, I welded in the seam, then ground back the slot to retain the look.

This is how the bottom of the B-post looks from the inside (LH side) ...

Ok, thanks for the replies - Beans, I fear mine won't look anything like that inside :( :)

Had to get the bodyshop to do both sides on my car after I bought it some years ago, this is what it looked like with the bottom of the wing cut out.
They fitted the readily available repair panels and the finished result looks good and you can see the before picture as well..
