where does this go?

Hello All. Newbie here who bought a TR7/8 DHC (YPM176Y) just before Xmas and have spent the past few weeks going over it. I always wanted a TR7 from the time it was launched when I was a spotty teenager and Tony Pond was my idol.
No idea who did the conversion and following a bare metal respray in 1993/4 it wasn't put back together very well so I'm kind of finding my way and sorting things out. Good things are a very solid body and based on the receipts I have a rebuilt V8 3500S engine. Electrics are pretty shocking with wires just taped together and being a BL product various gauges don't work. Work so far has been sorting out electrics, fitting new carpets and replacing or fitting numerous parts that either weren't there or were simply knackered. Some retrimming has been done and the seats and door cards are going off to be reupholstered in a more modern blue tartan arrangement.

Some questions -
1 - where does this go?

It fell out from behind the instruments when I removed the dash. Looks like it could support the fuel delay relay which was hanging loose.
2 - the lower part of body is body colour (tahiti) - should it be satin black and if so what is the line for the front wing and the rear quarter Pictures please.
3 - winders need replacing - what are the options for electric? I've seen on here that SDI rears can be easily modified?
4 - Going to fit a Motalita - how "blue" is the blue one? Does it match the standard blue vinyl (which is getting scrapped for something a bit brighter)?

I'm sure I will have more questions as my project continues but I look forward to being part of the TR family.

Welcome to the forum. They are great cars. Also join the TR7 Owners Page on Facebook for more advice. The 'Files' section has a lot of documents and a copy of the workshop manual available.

To try and answer your queries:

1. That does look like the bracket which holds the fuel gauge delay unit.
2. The lower part of the body was satin black (sort of stone chip textured) along the sills. There is a black plastic trim strip which runs along the top of the sill from the front wheel arch to the rear wheel arch. Behind the rear wheel arch the black follows the body line where it curves up to meet the bumper, including in the recess. Refer https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID006397
3. There are electric window kits available, probably best to talk to S&S Preparations or Robsport for one.
4. Sorry, no idea

The Rimmers catalogue and website are good for reference and part numbers. The main specialists are S&S and Robsport as above and always helpful for parts and advice. Also join the TR7 Owners Page on Facebook for more advice. The 'Files' section has a lot of documents and a copy of the workshop manual available. It can also be a faster way to get advice when necessary. This forum and the FB page are run by Dr Christopher Kenneth Smith who has what he calls a 'respectable collection' of the cars (ie a lot) and supports much of the activities.

I think that is the little extension piece that the dash top plastic cover fixes to. The open end has a screw into the top of the main dash so sticks out forwards with the speed nut end. A small countersunk screw then goes up into the speed nut to fix the dash top. I will try to add a picture.
