Replacing wiper arms - hmmmm!

My car came without any wiper arms fitted, though the linkages, motor wheel boxes etc were all present. Anyway I now have new arms, nuts, gaskets, spacers etc but all is not going sweetly :(

Have gotten the passenger side one on BUT cannot get the driver side sorted, just cannot get the chrome nut to get a bite on the wheel box spindle thread!? Without any of the gubbins on there the nut goes on just fine, but once the gasket, arm and spacer enter the equation it's not having any of it  :?:

Am I missing something obvious? Are they just a pain to fit?

Any help most appreciated as this is one of the last items stopping it from finally being registered and driven.

Try fitting it and tightening it without the arm or / and spacer, leave for a while then remove and try. Often the wheel box slips or is pushed back when you fit the scuttle trim and this will pull it close enough to fit everything. Other possibility is your gasket is too thick!

I just put a new seal on mine and this is what it looked like:

I concur, I made new seals for mine, there isn't a lot of room to spare so thickness of the seal is critical (can't be too thick) especially to get the seal compressed that first time.

Thanks guys, I was wondering if it was due to the gasket thickness - will investigate more.
