Kenlowe fan wiring

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">I have replaced my fan with a Kenlowe unit and was wondering if I need to wire the control unit in with a relay, or can it go directly to the battery?

Also, I'm not sure of the current these things draw, so does anybody know the rating of fuse I should use, which I will place in the +ve line from the battery to the control unit (unless any of you know differently!).

Is it worth wiring in an over-ride switch in the cockpit?

A simple wiring diagram would be really appreciated.

Yes,

Wire it to a relay with the temp sensor on the radiator, that is how the original fans were wired with A/C. I have an override switch on the side of my heater cover so I can turn the fans on at will.

Yes - you should wire it through a relay and a 20 amp fuse on the main feed to the relay (not the sensor cable!). I can't believe at the price they charge for these fans - they don't supply fuse/relay/wiring diagram etc with the fan ??

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">To be fair to Kenlowe, it came fitted to a car so they didn't actually charge me for this. However, the reason I wouldn't buy one direct is exactly that - they are very expensive!

This might sound really stupid, but does anybody out there have a wiring diagram to direct me how to wire the unit in? The car it came from didn't have a relay, just straight from the battery; that's why I thought it didn't need a relay.

Basic relay has 4 connections - it's an electrically operated power switch. Two of them operate the coil that works the internal switch - these should be connected to the sensor arrangements - or the 'by-pass' switch, and earth. The other two are the ones that switch the high current to the fan - so one to the fuse - and then from the fuse to the brown wire (battery +ve) somewhere convenient on the car - and the other to the fan, which will of course need to be earthed. If you get a relay - it should come with details of what the various connections are for.
Sorry - I'm useless at drawing diagrams - but I'm sure someone will be along soon who has that skill!

I have just fitted one myself and finally got it working a treat. I will scan the diagram if you want and send it to you.
I put a 30 amp fuse in mine to be on the safe side and I am yet to fit the manual override switch, but I think it will be worth it

I now just have to find a diagram for wiring the fan in through a relay - I have found one on the net that says terminal 85 goes to earth but the one I have bought has a wiring diagram on the back which shows terminal 86 going to earth!!! Confused, I am.

Be aware that 'Phil' said he wired his fan directly into the radio feed! This is not wise - the ignition switch will not stand the load for long. The main power should come directly from the battery +ve (brown wire) - and only the signal wire for the relay should go through Ign - to prevent the fan running when the Ign is OFF!

Despite advice to use a relay, brown wire feed, fuse etc - you decided the radio feed was the one to use ! It is likely to fry the ignition switch - which was never designed for those loads. I gave up offering advice in your thread because you seemed to just ignore anything that was said - despite it being offered with best intentions.
