Warning!!!!!!

Postby Gareth » 02 Jun 2009 20:28

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR DHC in the sun with the hood down, without putting sunblock on. It is my Birthday today (40 life is over???) so as a treat I thought I would take the TR7 out for a spin (180 mile jaunt) in the gorgeous sun. Everything was fine until I got home? If you know the saying "A Brit abroad" well I now look like one, aka "A Lobster".

The 7 performed well (except for those dreaded Waxstats). Had an excellent day but paying the price (and the Wife)

Mate I only have to look out the window on a sunny day & BAM! Baked bonce.

I think you can get hats that have hair attached especially suited for middle-aged convertible drivers who want protection from the sun & experience the wind in the hair feeling.

I'm glad you Northern lot are enjoying your weather. Its brass chimps here.

Gareth

Life begins at forty and as with many of us with a reseading hairline or infact no hairline a little bit of suntan on the ole block, fades in quite nicely [:D]

and look at the savings, one afternoons drive in the sun is cheaper than the daughters visit to the tanning saloon and twice as effective.

and thats in a FHC with the sunroof open

Even with a full head of hair, the sun beats down hard during New England springs. When the top is down on the Spider, the scalp offers less protection than it did in decades past.

Nevertheless there is no better way to travel 1 mile or 1,000 miles that in a topless TR-7. Later this month I have some off island travel for work that will finally let my car stretch its 5-gear legs and scorch my body.

Just buy yourself a flat cap - in profile its a wedge shape and is totally aerodynamically stable at speeds up to 130km/hr. (Just don't do what I did and take it off for a moment. It was ripped from my hands by the air blast over the windscreen and it was a long walk back down the autoroute to rescue it!)

PS They also can be obtained in Tartan to match the seats

Luckily I still have a full head of hair so I was ok with that, it was the face and arms that are burnt (very little sleep last night for all the wrong reasons damn!!! lol!!!)

I'd like to respond "OK" to sunscreen but, I never burn. I just go darker shades of tan [:D]. Guess it the Italian in me. LOL (that is why I love my convertibles [8D])

Woody sells nice hats from the Wedgeshop - will keep the sun off.

That is why you but a TR8 coupe.......no sunburn, wet legs, quieter, and cheaper and they are faster than the convertibles......it is a mystery on it's own? Woody and the other coupe owners will tell you they (BL) put something in the gas tanks[:D]

My first TR7 had a sunroof. I was driving it across Texas one sunny, summer day (continuing a drive from New Mexico to Georgia that I had started a month earlier but which had been delayed when the rear end failed in Lamesa, TX).

Despite my full head of hair and the theoretical UV blocking attributes of the sunroof glass, I got a fairly bad sunburn on the top of my head.
