FHC RESTO

Well I started to strip the TR today ready for resto,repaint and V8 conversion. Taking it easy, photographing and bagging/labelling as I go. Been doing concours restos on cars for almost 15 years and it pays to take it easy and keep a track of parts, make a list of items needed as you go along, for example if you break a fastener taking something off [:I][:I]

A few pics, happy for your comments, popped one of the floor bungs mentioned in another thread on the board, mine also are just large flat discs, no pressing as such like a proper floor bung.

Good luck with the restoration.Your car looks to have escaped the rust monster so you should have a pleasent time.I love the colour too[:D].Are you fitting the rover V8? where are you sourcing it as SD1s are few now.

I already have a doner TR7V8 that I recently bought just to rob all the running gear and conversion parts, these will all be refurbed and placed into the green car when ready. The red one will then be offered free on here or it will be s***pp*ed [:0][:0]

So, while the rest of the family sunbathed I carried on with the strip down, todays job was dash removal ([:(!] sheer bolts on ignition[:(!]),front screen out, in one piece, bonnet off and roof lining out. Not a lot but I was in and out watching the MotoGP, British Superbikes and now looking forward to World Superbikes tonight [:D]

Been inspecting up inside the front wings the best I can, unsure whether to have them off just to check 100% or not.

Sounds like you had your hands full today, hope you done it in the shade.

Good to see the pictures with the dash out.I have this job to do to sort out some electrical woes and it is not the mega wire forest i expected to see.You have been busy ripping into the car kep up the good work.Are you replacing the removed parts with new ones or just making sure all is ok? Also what is the problem with the red donor? Why not resore that with the engine already in? Just wondered as a shame to see any TR die[8)]

Will be fitting all new bushes, adjustable suspension, new brakes right round, V8 engine will get stripped and overhauled, gearbox will maybe be exchanged for a recon'd unit although I have driven it and it seemed ok, rear axle will be stripped and fully rebuilt.This is the last resto I am doing for myself so its gonna be right and done to my requirements.

The red car is not as good as the pictures make it look, would need quite a bit of bodywork, think its best it donates itself to keep other cars on the road.

I don't understand why you need to touch the sheer bolts unless you are changing the ignition barrel.

Hi,
The sheer bolts that hold the column up are best removed by cutting a slot in them with a dremmel type grinder then wind out with a screw driver SIMPLES in the words of a certain Mearcat [;)]
Phil hows your car coming on [?] Blagged a pit pass for my car at The Retro Show so shall be parked up with the V8 Owners Forum lads and lasses, see you there hopefully.

Hi John,
Probably won't be running for the Retro Show. I knew it was a big job, but Jesus!! Nothing i haven't done before, just lots of it. The green car is nearly stripped, just seats, wiring harness and rear shelf to come out. Have fitted fuel tank, rear axle, pedal box, servo and exterior trim to red car. Need to run new "tidy" ignition feeds to fuel pump and fan relay from fuse box IGN AUX. I have some new modern sound insulation to go on front bulkhead and trans tunnel aswell. Oh yeah, waiting for "NEW" short engine to be built aswell.
