<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Okay, trying to connect all the spaghetti in the engine bay and not doing too bad, BUT pride comes before a fall.

The loom that connects to the alternator has two "spurs" that connect to the coil. (There is also the oil pressure connection, but that one's sorted).

One of these spurs has two seperate cables, one white and yellow (WY) and one white and slate (WS). I have connected the WY cable to the +ve terminal and the WS cable to the -ve terminal, as identified from the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual.

There is another spur that has two cables into one termination, both WS. I think this connects to the -ve terminal. I've also connected the condensor to the -ve termnal.

The reason I'm querying is that I have 4 connections on the -ve terminal (condensor, twin WS cable and single WS cable) but only one (WY) on the +ve terminal. It just appears "lop-sided" to me so I thought I'd check with you guys.

Can anybody shed any light on this, as I'd like to make sure it's right before I run any electricity through and set fire to The Pheonix! I don't want any more ashes, thank you very much!

I might be able to get a photo on-line within a couple of days, but if you can help me before then, obviously it'd be much appreciated.

I'm guessing the 'condenser' is some kind of radio suppressor - in which case it would do better on the input (+ve ) side. One of the WS connectors has to go to the dizzy input!

Apparently, according to HBOL, the condensor has something to do with smoothing out the spark and stopping arcing (it's been a few hours since I read it).

I pressume you are talking about this piece of wiring ???



This is the standard coil connection for a Euro spec TR7. Forget the red arrow, that's where I conected the feed for my Luminition ignition.

White/yellow to coil +ve
White/slate single wire to coil -ve
White/slate double wire connects to the low tenion lead from the dizzy(which you are probably refering to as the condenser wire)

On the cars I've seen, that cable comes out from the cabin bulkhead near where the throttle, bonnet release and choke cables exit; the plug is for the brake unit isn't it?. On mine the coil wires come out from the gearbox tunnel and is wrapped in with the alternator loom. However, the connections are the same, just different routing.

Steve - does that mean ALL white/slate to -ve and ALL (hah - one!) white/yellow to +ve.

Guys, thanks very much for both suggestions - I'm slowly but surely building the picture!

Next (and hopefully last) question will be about the fuel sender unit wiring.

If yours is an early car, these had the coil situated against the RH side of the bulkhead/transmission tunnel, rather close to the dizzy.

That might explain the different wiring layout on your car.
