Replacing the gearbox bushes.

Postby busheytrader » 17 May 2009 14:53

Hi,

I dropped the propshaft so a recon shop can have a look at it as it may be out of balance.

Whilst underneath the car I looked up at the remains of the rubber bushes that hold on the remote extension. Apart from needing lots of extra thin hands I eventully replaced the bushes with the housing in situ. All was fine until I stirred the gearstick to find it stuck, nothing moving.

Even though I was careful not to move the housing about much, the extension shaft had still managed to drop off the selector shaft's pin at the back off the box.

http://www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/index.html This useful link from one of Mildred's posts has the guy's right thumb over the offending ball joint.

I ended up stripping off the gearstick topside and removing all the new bushes so I could engage the pin again. I lost a good few hours as I found my way through this. Hopefully you won't make the same mistake.

Adam

Happened to me last year while replacing the infamous bushes.
But as the extension shaft fell out pretty easily I thought it would go back in easily, And it did [:)]
