Hi all just a quick question, as im having new number plates to go on my 7, from your own experience, have the majority of you screwed youre plates to the car front and rear , or have you used the adhesive stick pad strips instead?

Many thanks

Sticky pads at the back.

Number plate screws and pads similar to these through the plastic front bumber. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... lgcb0u_OIF

That's what Grinall's used when they restored the bodywork almost 20 years ago. Haven't fallen off yet.

Cheers guys, i have screws at the front and sticky pads on the back at present, so i think i will do just the same when i put my newer plates on, use i very fine drill bit and use the old plate as the template for the holes.

My car has the plates mounted by self tapping screws front & back. It has always been that way - I presume the original dealers drilled the two small holes through the back panel.

Once a year I take the rear plate off so I can clean & polish the paintwork behind the plate - & check for signs of rust in the screw holes!

The suplying dealers put a small piece of plastic tube over the end of the self tapping screws, stop you scratching your hand on the ones in the boot.

I use screws at the front and sticky pads at the back. I use a metal number plate at the front and perspex at the back. The reason for metal to the front is that when brushing past the front I have snagged against a perspex and it cracked into pieces - the metal just deforms and can be bent back [:)]

The reason for the sticky pads at the rear is that any mounting holes are prone to rust [:(]
