Hazard warnings

As I am being lazy I thought I would ask you all first. My hazards have decided to play up and only the drivers side flash when switched on, and they flash quickly, as though a bulb has gone. They haven`t as the indicators are fine.

I am assuming a dodgy earth. Where is the best place to start looking.

Thanks in advance.

Andy,
I would guess at the switch or flasher unit being at fault, maybe a loose or dirty connection.

The hazard sw. gets used very infrequently so the contacts don`t see enough action to keep clean.-(@MOT!) Give the sw. a good rocking for a dozen or so times-usually resolves the prob-use it or lose it!-worth a try before start to pull it all out.[;)]

Cheers guys I will give those a go first. Howard, if the switch is dodgy could it cause just the one side to flash though?

I would have thought it would have affected all the flashers not just one side. Or am I missing something?

had the same prob with mine for the mot.....[xx(]hazards worked fine then indicators flashed ten to the dozen, then indicators worked and hazards played up...... i got 5 switches on the dash and one of the unused switches was identical to the hazard except for the symbol on the actual switch, so gave it a good clean and swapped the switch and voila..... also cleaned all the earth points i could find relating to lights too....... aren't these cars a law unto themselves...lol

the project at birth, watch it evolve...I hope...

The left and right circuits are kept electrically seperate through the hazard sw. to keep the left/right indicators circuits apart for normal use.

The hazard system and the turn indicators have separate Blinking units.

The hazard blinking unit is with the fuses and the turn indicator blinking unit is under the dash near the steering column.

Even though they have separate blinking units the wiring runs from the hazard switch to the turn indicator switch before going to the indicator lights. So, along with cleaning the hazard switch, you also have to check the connector under the dash that connects to the turn indicator switch.
