Why camping?

So guys,
now I've seen yet one more ad for a Triumph car meet in Britain advertised as a 'Camping event'.
I must admit I'm somewhat amazed by this: Your camping type club (and non-club) meetings...
Could someone please elaborate and enlighten me about this - in a adverse summer climate as yours...
If we'd announce a Triumph meet in Sweden as a camping based meet we'd get a handful of participants - at best.
And that'd be the true anoraks...
If we don't offer hotel/hostel venues (at least basic hotel type living) the bulk of the ordinary members don't show up.
An interresting difference, indeed! I wonder, is this difference in the members of the clubs or is it in something else?
