Are new and late boots interchangeable?

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">I am trying to figure out why the boot I've fitted to my early FHC doesn't sit correctly in it's hole. Is it possible to fit a twist lock into a push button type boot or is this impossibe? If it's possible, would it make a difference to the position of the boot when closed? My boot is pulled too far down when it shuts so sits below the level of the rear wings and I was wondering if this is because I've used the wrong type of lock in the wrong boot. Once again I turn to you guys hoping you can bale me out again.</font id="blue"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

well i think it is possible to exchange early and late type locks. Bootlids are the same size.
But i would check if you can adjust the lock catcher inside the rear panel, if you can bring that up a bit?

Mac, is the mismatch with the boot seal installed? New or old? If a new, adjustments are in order. If an old seal, a replacement will determine how low the boot lid will set compared to the wings/fenders.[?]

Mac I've seen that problem before when you use a late lid on an early car so I think it probably isn't a straight swap.

It's a straight swap

i've done it and all i had to do is adjust the lock buyt that would be the same for any swap

[8 whole cylinders worth of punch to ram the world through the windshield and out the rear view mirror. Car & Driver]

You can't fit the late model push button lock to an earlier bonnet with the twist lock, or the other way round.
But exchanging earlier with later bootlids shouldn't be a problem. If it is check if the bonnet is warped. Or have you replaced (one of) the rear-wings?

Ah i see now Beans is correct you can't just exchange lock types but the boots as a whole is no problem as i said before when i fitted a later boot to mine i did have to adjust the lock or catch postion to get it to sit properly. and to that end open properly.

Ie as with yours Mac the botton was hard to push in and the boot lid sat below the wings until a adjusted it...
