[xx(]First off thanks to John.Without his help I couldn't have achevied anything.I have replaced my door weatherstrip and he lent me the fitting tool.I had one hell of a job even with it so it must be impossible without one.I am glad it's done but never again! I waxoiled the door while it was in bits and changed the crappy stereo speaker.I will do the other door tommorow as that little job took 5 hrs.[:o)]

Take the window out with door panel off, press the clips on with your fingers. Job done in 2 minutes. Nothing to it.

I will have to have the wife take pictures when I do TCT as this seems to be a big issue to many. (Already done the Spider.) Won't be for a while though as I have to continue stripping it down, paint the car inside and out, before I start building it up. As the missing front deck is beckoning not to mention dirty looks from the wife when I'm not working on the house.[:D]

Thanks for the thought john 'it's the thought that counts[:D]I couldn't bear to see you struggle.....so I closed my eyes'he he.I will send your tool back next week along with a little something[;)]. I did try to remove the window but that was turning a hard job harder.I must have been doing something wrong? So I losened the nuts holding the mechanism together and just pulled the window to one side so I could get the fitting tool in.One step forward three back I noticed when I put my toys away that the brake lights don't work now[:0].Well they will if you stamp on the pedal.Some adjustment needed.Also My drivers side window has some specks of paint on the top 3rd.I have tried thinners and progressed from a rag to a pan scrubber and they won't come off.Any ideas? They have always been there I only got around to the door job today.

Hi Fi,
Dont doubt you for a minute, just one off those jobs that even back when doing these under warranty use to hate doing [}:)] May be Canadians have tuffer fingers than us Brits [;)]
Steph, no problem, try gently scrapping with a razor or stanely blade, would'nt go mad with thinners or anything else as you dont want to damage that seal [:p] if it runs down the glass.

Recommend you keep the angle very low as to slice the paint spots from your window, a steep angle near 90' can scratch the glass.[:D]

I made a tool from 1 1/2" wide metal straping. I took the door cards off and then I used a putty knife to push the original clips (The clips have little barbs on one side, so be sure and check the direction of the old clips before you remove them!) off the old strip and collected them as spares.
Remove the old rubber and slide the new one in place at the vent (Hah!) window frame. The trick with putting the new clips on is to push the new rubber all the way into place and then put pressure into the door face and slightly down. With a clip in the proper orientation, you set and pull the new clip into place. Then move down and set the next one. I put them about 2" apart using both the new and old clips.
Before I installed the door cards I made some extensions for the speaker wires, so the next time I remove them, I just have to remove the door light wires and lay the cards on the ground.
PS, If you put foam insulation on the vent window frame, you will cut down of road noise and water comeing into the passenger compartment.

Thanks for the tip about removing paint specks.Also that wind block is a top tip[:)].What is that rubber bit rivited on the end of the window frame called? I am missing those[V].Oh how many little jobs will I have till it's done[:D].Both doors done now weatherstrip,waxoiled,new speakers and attached the door handles that came in my box of spares.I have had to put one on backwards for now as I seem to have two left ones.Also the door lights are not wired in.Ho hum whens the next bank holiday.......[B)]

I think your refering to the "corner block" part number YKC2971 for LH and YKC2972 for RH (the top of the quarter light frame). That's the part you take off so the window sides up and off the door so you can easily put on the outside weatherstrip, which you've already done.[:)] Those parts are usually missing as well as the corner covers Part# ZKC2582 and ZKC2583 and the top finisher rear channels are usually broken if they're there at all, part# XKC2971 and XKC2972.

Oh my god mr tr7inc.You have 'vanished' from your avatar.Have you gone for a cuppa or did the nice men with straight jackets prise you from that lovely yellow devil while you were mumbelling "lucas wiring,british leyland,rust etc" he he[:D].Thanks for the support btw .I am spurned on to get my car roadworthy by the sunny days.I WANT IT NOW!......(stamp foot pout).[}:)]

Hi Steph, im here in the pic now honest lol, hope your well and im sure with all youre enhusiasm you will have youre car on the road soon, if you get a chance do send some pics of youre car to us, woul love to see them, as for my car well im starting to put all the front end bits back on, and now ive discovered i have a little oil leak on the floor nothin major, but will check it out this week some point, anyway hope to catch you soon Steph, keep smiling [:)]

Welcome back tr7inc.I have my fingers crossed for your front assembly that nothing slips and scratches the paint or you find three bolts left after the jobs done! I have trouble getting pics on here.It's been explained more than once but I just can't grasp it.So here is the link to my album of car pics.
