What a day I am having[V] thanks to you guys I have got the fuel gauge working now my next problem is the spin on oil filter conversion.I have followed the instuctions and have the assembly on the car at last.The middle part tended to fall out a lot and the gaskets wouldn't hold in place without some grease as glue.Now the spin on filter won't spin on as the whole thing is too long now and fouls on the clutch slave feed pipe,AAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH it is getting near hammer tim and we are not talking baggy gold trousers here[:(!]

Who supplied the spin on converter and filter? If you got the from the same place then they should be a "matched pair" but someone can always pick the wrong parts by mistake. If it's someone like Robsport or S&S then they should have sorted in a couple of mins over the phone. I have heard of others with this problem but don't know the solution.

I stayed with the old cartridge filter type until I converted to V8. It was a horrible job changing it every year so spin on is the way to go, when it works.

Well done, i know a lot of men would'nt have done what you have done today! Certainly not with out actually picking that hammer up hitting something repeatedly!!

Thanks for the encouragement john.To be honest my dad did most of the dirty work until he got so fed up he wanted me to be adopted and went home[B)].I do pass the spanners though and like to understand how things work even if I can't actualy do it myself.

Well done anyway, i have had apprentices that would'nt know what a ring spanner ect was, although they have no trouble leaving them in other peoples cars [:(!]

After seeing how it's done there's little reason you wouldn't be able to do it yourself sometime in the future. While Triumph engineering can sometimes seem convoluted it could be worse. Try removing the alternator fron an Integra sometime where you have to disconnect the front suspension, pull the front axle, remove the lower alternator bracket to drop the alternator out of the small hole made available. Everything seems simple after doing that one.

The solution is rather simple, use a shorter filter.
I use a filter meant for the Mini's and Opel Kadett's.
(Bosch partnumber P2056)



It's a tight fit but you can remove th efilter without touching anything else[;)]

Glad you got it sorted. Always a satisfying feeling.

I asked Hasbeen if he wanted to adopt me but was turned down.[:0] One day I'll pluck up enough courage to ask Mildred.[:)] I was originally adopted back in the 60's, so why not again by a family that isn't mechanically inept.
