Poly Bushes

I have a set of poly bushes to install. Also got one of TSIs larger frt sway bars which is about 1/16 larger than the stock TR8. The bar to frame bushes are sized for the stock TR7 bar so need to be reamed out according to Ted. So my question is, what is the best procedure to go about doing this? I know some of you have fitted the uprated bars and thought there may be a trick to it.

Hi Underdog,

My front anti roll bar is much thicker than standard on the Grinnall, but I found it possible to fit the poly-bushes without any modification. I found that smearing a little grease on the bar to help you slide them into place helped a lot, the tricky bit is when you get to the bend!
Try boiling them in hot water before you go reaming them and have a go. I wouldn't have though 1/16th inch bigger would present too much of a problem to be honest.

When I worked at the Wedge Shop in the US and with my own car I would use a hack saw and cut the bushing open on the flat side where the mold line was. Grease them up good and the when you install the bar they will compress and in 15 years of doing this have never had an issue. Woody has done hundreds of cars!

Thanks Michael. I got them from Woody and he did tell me about spliting them. I was concerned about the difference in diameter but will give it a go. Lots of silicone grease and they should compress.
