Bumper Covers

Postby HowardB » 11 Mar 2009 19:46

I have acquired a spare front and rear bumper as the covers on mine are in poor condition, but the steelwork is OK. How do you remove the covers from the bumpers?

Thanks

First you need to remove the entire bumper from the car. The covers are 3 piece with 2 ends and a long main bit in between them. To dismantle you need to remove the ends first.

Front bumper:

There are 2 bolts that attach the rear edge of each of the bumper ends (see problem 1) & 1 bolt on the bottom. At the top there are 2 clamps. Once you get ends off I think there is just a couple of clamps holding the main part of the bumper cover on.

Rear bumper:

There is 1 bolt that attaches the rear edge of the bumper end (see problem 1) & 2 bolts on the bottom. At the top there is 1 clamp. Again the main part has clamps on the top & there are 2 bolts on the bottom that need to be removed.

Problems:

1. The bolts that fasten the rear edge of the ends to the metal frame screw into metal inserts in the plastic cover. If these inserts come loose in the plastic housing the bolt will turn without unscrewing & will need to be pulled or cut.

2. The main covers sometimes get jammed in the grooves on the frame so may need to be levered or tapped out.

Good luck.
