I am new to the TR scene but thankfully have now seen the light and got myself a TR7 V8 DHC ............What a machine !!!
I have managed to get myself a rollover bar but am struggling to find out how to fit it correctly. First attempts to 'dry fit' have resulted in the bar fouling firstly the seat belt mount then the other extreme of the bar fouling the last hoop of the roof HELP

appreciate some guidance on this noting I have tried to find detail from the forum archives but not had any success as yet

What roll bar have you got? This can be a request from hell for new members but can you post some photos to show us the problem & show off your new car?

If the bar you have is like the one I currently have, which it sounds that way, the (retracting)seatbelt assemblies need to be altered/moved. Mine were moved forward with a small 'L' shaped bracket to allow bar to fit.

I believe its called the Alley bar which has the clearance 'hump' on the top mount and the chassis plates have three holes in..........noting when I look at the chassis rails its to fit against there are no guide holes there ???

Had the same problems with mine [V] but thanks to Steve up at S+S Preperations got it sorted ( http://www.ss-preparations.co.uk/ ), mine was one of there originaly but i got second hand off Fleabay.
If yours is like mine-



The three hole on the side, the centre one lines up with a bolt already present, it you gently pull back the carpet on the side below where the hood frame bolts on you will see a 10mm headed bolt this locates the bar.



Now you may have to trim the bottom of the hoop where it touches the floor. place the frame on the rear shelf, mark and drill the holes through the shelf, now unless you remove the fuel tank [:0] [:(] you cant get to put a nut on the N/S inner bolt as tank is in the way!!
The outer bolts go through into the wheel arches so some paint and waxoil on the holes ect.
Mark and drill the remaining 2 bolts each on the sides, now Steve rec welding nuts into the body for these but i used 'rivnuts' ( a sort of pop rivet with a thread inside it). Bolted all up nice and tight.
IF the hood hoop hits, it probally will! then the hood can be adjusted upwards on its mounts (also tightens a saggy hood [;)] ) or slot the side mount holes in the roll over bar to allow for adjustment.

John, Thats the one I have got and your info is excellant and really appreciated, but could I just ask do the top mounts sit behind the seatbelt mechanisms ?? ta

That looks like the one I have and the top mounts sit on the shelf behind the seat belts. I didn't fit it (was on the car when I bought it), but there is no sign of the belt positions being altered.

1) Does this style rollbar stop the back of the seat from going all the way back .??
2) Does is intrude with the side of the seats
3) And does it make it harder to put up and take down the top???
4)How thick is it?

In my case, no, no and no.
The tube that goes down to the floor is to one side if the seat. The only things I find with the roof are that one of the plastic trims catches on it if I don't hold it tight to the roof, probably more to do with a warped trim, and it is almost impossible to use the zip out rear window (if you want to).
Not sure what you mean by 'how thick is it'? I do not have the car here to measure but the tubes are probably about 1 1/4" dia. The two tubes are vynyl trimmed as they come together and across the top, probably about 2 1/2" thick across the top and widening to about 5" some 6" above the shelf level at a guess.

Hi John,
No problem mate been a pleasure, I had to slot the holes in mine slightly to lower it so to give a good clearance for hood.
One other thing i noticed it stiffened the body shell as well [8D]

My Aley bar does 'catch' the hood slightly - just have to lift the hood frame over it slightly as it goes up/down.
