Jokes from local Triumph club news letter

I saw a few complaints by e-mail before I had seen the news letter. I assumed they were about the first picture when I read the news letter and did not understand what the big deal was. The second one bothers me a little more.

I just joined the club a few months ago. I had heard stories of other clubs that did not consider wedges to be "real" Triumphs, but I was told this club did not feel that way (past president even had a TR8).

Hmmm. I am inclined to say it`s just a joke (albeit not remotely funny) and not something to get too worked up about. Whether it is indicitive of feelings within the club in general remains to be seen I guess.

This by itself is no big deal, but I hope this is not a trend.

I normally have pretty thick skin (I can even watch top gear and laugh at the jokes about Americans).

I'm a past president of our local club and I own a TR8. Quite a few wedges in our club and it started life as a TR3 group! We also combine many of our events with the MG club. The more the merrier.[:D] I suppose it was meant in a joking manner but not well thought out. These cars got, and still do, a lot of bad press. Unfortunate to see a Marque Club feel the need to perpetuate that attitude. I'll go along with Andy though and say don't get too worked up about it. Hopefully the emails you mention got to the editor and he will realize that poking fun of someones car isn't good. Be like telling someone thier wife is fat or stupid or ugly...or fat, stupid and ugly![;)]

Take it as good fun until proven otherwise. I belong to a club that started as an MG club, is now multi marque, there is over half a dozen TR7/8's in the last couple of years including the current President's. There is lots Triumph vs. MG banter not to mention when a little Austin A35 beat a Jaguar at Goodwood a few years ago the Jaguar crowd had it rubbed in their noses.

The TR7/8 had the last laugh on the MG in any case. The Wedge shut down the B production line before it too was cancelled & it was only a management decision away from being an MG anyway - so there!
