Caliper upgrade

Hi all.
I've been thinking about brake upgrades & how I can fit vented rotors in place of solid ones. Is anyone able to tell me if you can buy or get made, caliper spacers to allow vented discs to be used in place of solid ones? If so, would they be aluminium or steel? All the off the shelf upgrade kits are way too expensive to get shipped to Oz & we never had late model Capris, Princesses or Vitesses, so finding upgrade bits locally isn't so easy. I spotted some calipers that would increase the pad area & should bolt on, but I'd like to widen them to take vented rotors.

The ones in the Rimmer kit use spacers made of steel. I don't know of anyone selling them separately. Probably cause they want to sell the kit. A good machine shop should be able to make up a pair. Get the transfer port holes right though. Rimmer didn't do a very good job the first batch. There's another thread discussing the problems me & John215 had with them.

go to jclay website and look at his brake upgrade (volvo base upgrade).
this is a common upgrade.

I've seen JClay's pages and that's still an option. We don't have any TR7 specialists in Australia apart from Triumph Rover Spares & I can't afford his prices. What I do have access to is a set of 4 pot calipers that will bolt straight on, take 10+ inch solid discs, but could be split & have spacers fitted to take vented rotors.
Underdog, thanks for your help. I know now to go steel rather than alloy. I remember reading about the Rimmer spacers being misaligned previously.
I just thought I'd ask in the off chance that someone else had previously tried widening calipers.

I was thinking about 4 pot calipers from an 80s Range Rover. Roger Williams in his "How to improve Triumph TR7....." book says that these are exactly the same as SD1 Vitesse and looking at them I would say he's right. Looks like they need spacers to fit vented rotors, but if that can be done and they bolt straight on then maybe they make a nice upgrade

Hi Scott I have Princess calipers on my v8 and changed from Capri vented discs to Rossini drilled and grooved discs, had to get them bored out to fit, but a good improvement on stopping power Rimmers are now agents for Rossini discs and they are in their catalogue.
Don't know whether this helps with your caliper problem but it might give you another option.
