Matrix Install Questions (VB)

Good Day All!

I have a VB heater matrix/core to install; the one that “requires no sealsâ€￾ and has the 2 pipes coming out where the original seals used to go. If anyone has installed one, any suggestions are appreciated. My car is a heater only unit.

I think I have pretty much exhausted the archive section with no direct references to this particular matrix.

I.e. do I need to hack (saw) off part of the original water pipes and hook up with heater hose?

I also plan to clean everything up while the whole consol is out (electrics etc.) and replace all the heater foam. Any ideas on what foam to use? I was thinking about using self adhesive weather stripping and maybe even some rigid foam insulation (possibly covered in high heat tape) to repack the matrix.

As far as taking everything apart, I do have all the workshop manuals and tackled the OEM matrix about 17 years ago.

Any ideas very much appreciated!

Randy

I still retained the 'through bulkhead' metal pipes.

for the foam used on the doors, go to a auto upholstry shop and get some headliner material that has foam on the back. just reverse it and it works great.

For the foam facing on the flaps I used some thin high density black/charcoal foam I got from Michaels's (the craft store.) For the thicker stuff I used foam from a new Selectric sound kit (probably last one in existence but you likely can get something similar from auto upholstery place (where I got foam for headrests).
