Door Panel Fix

Am I the only one who has bought a car with huge speaker holes cut into the doors? Too large for stock speaker covers?
Because the door panels were like new (I'm too cheap to buy new ones),
This was my solution, walk through a salvage yard with a tape measure and pop door pockets off a 4 door Saturn front doors.
Then took the lower panel and cut it to fit the TR7 doors.
Covers the hole and gives me a map pocket.

No it's close but works fine. I'm thinking about putting power windows in. I just put new regulators in both doors and it looks like it would be a easy install. Do you know of any one who has converted the windows to power.
Oh, one other think I didn't have door handle surrounds so I got these off a toyota truck.

I think that looks pretty good & would save me fishing around behind the seats which where all that stuff normally ends up. I would want to find some door pulls that match though.

I redyed all the door pieces at the same time and I cann't get the pull to match, it must be the material. In some lighting it looks fine but in that last picture it looks totally different.

Very clever fix,Orange.Allways handy to have a little more storage
Too.I'll bet no one uses those ash trays anyway.What is a 'Saturn'?
Do we have an equivalent here in old Blighty?

Hi Paul, General Motors Saturn is a model by the General like Vauxhall on your side of the pond. As a mater of fact Saturn markets some of the Vauxhall line over here. But I'm sure you can find something there that would work, I was originally looking for something with a built in arm rest but I really want to get rid of that window handle, I've got to get power windows this week.

Ron,i think our very own 'Odd' has fitted power windows to his v8.If
he sees this,i'm sure he will give you some advice on how he did it.

Correct, I've got electric window winders in my '8. But they weren't of my own design, it was a
purpose built kit intended for the Wedge. Sold by Moss Europe around ten years ago, I don't
know if they have any kits left still. It was a complete kit with all new hardware in the winding
mechanism and the motors etc internal in the doors. My only addition to the project was
discarding the hideous switch-carrying boxes (intended to be fitted over the hole for the oem
window winder) - and fitting the switches where the car was intended to have them already
by the Triumph designers: In the flat outer side areas of the center console.
I then fitted TR8-logoed blanking plates over the winder holes...
And! While I was digging around in the doors I also fitted keyless entry technology
- and barrel-less door handles to the car:

That is really cleverly done, Orange. A useful mod!
Didn't very early 7s have an elasticated type map pocket on the door trim? Why did BL get rid of it - such a good idea.
There are a few people on here who have done electric window conversions. It was something BL had lined up for the cars but like so many improvements it never got to the production line. I think Chris Turner has one of the very rare original factory electric window kits.

Hi Mark, I didn't need to cut the tr panel at all just trim a little of the speaker surround so it would lay flat. This piece is bolted on the saturn from the back of the door panel so it makes for an easy install to the tr panels.
Odd I need that power window application, I was thinking of putting the switchs on both sides of the hand brake but I'm not sure there is room, and the cover for the hole is what I had in mind only I was thinking a 3.8 logo there. Door handles look great, that would solve the working non working locks. (they aways stop working in the lock position)

And the switch positions even have brake-out pieces in the back surface of the center panel. (Plenty
of room in there, not so in the tunnel coating pieces.)
The door handles are LR Discovery rear door handles.
