Speedo Cable

Some cars came with a Service Interval Meter that used two cables for the speedo.
Can the original cable be substituted for the double cable set-up and by-pass the meter?
What is the length of the original cable with no meter?
FI TR7! but I have seen the duel set-up on carb cars also.

Jclay,
The meeter is there to indicate life expectancy of the O2 sensor. Since non-FI do not have an O2 sensor, I do not see why they would have them. I wonder if you saw it on a formally FI car?

There was one on Ol' Yeller! I gave that car away years ago. (2003)
This is for another member with a fuel injected car. I did have some strange indicators in that car, so I bet you are right about it being FI.

I've seen the two part cable on TR7 parts cars that I've had. Definitely not FI cars.

Here is a picture of one of them, a 1975, you can also see the very early prop rod for the hood/bonnet.

The service interval indicator is used for O2 sensor replacement on FI car, catalytic converter on non FI cars. Some Spitfires also have it (for catalytic converter.) I see no reason why you couldn't bypass it unless you live in some nazi state that doesn't allow that modification.

I think I have read that you can use the Spitfire's non-overdrive cable. From TRF's Spitfire parts catalogue: 48" long, UKC1016. The overdrive equipped car's cable is 54", GSD273.

Moss lists a replacement one piece to eliminate the counter. Part # 071-721 for about 30 bucks. I had to replace mine as I broke it when the engine was out. My car didn't have the counter(80 TR8 carb) If memory serves me, I got it from Moss & it works perfectly. Can't say as to the length.

I think I saved the old one when I put a new cable in. I will check later today and post it's length if no one beats me to it.
