I want to order a bush set for the 7. Rimmer offers a hard black one but does not say what material. VB offers a yellow poly for more money. What is the Rimmer material? Which is the superior bush? I do not intend to race this car.

Don't know Nick, but the bush kit I bought from Ted Schumacher is the black poly one; hope it works out okay.

Hi,

I had the hard rubber Triumphtune bushes fitted to my 7 when they were the only performance option available. They were not only harder but solid items as opposed to hollow. The local garage had to fit them to my suspension arms because a hydraulic press was needed to push them in.

We have up to 3 degrees of Polybush hardness available here in the UK and I don't think a press is needed to fit them as the methodology is different. I recently replaced the old bushes on my anti roll bar and engine subframe with Polyitems but the old hard suspension bushes are still going strong.

Uprating the bushes makes the 7 handle so much better, particularly the steering turn in. Unfortunately our cars have so many of them the handling deteriorates dramatically when they wear out. It's such a gradual process that it's a shock when you replace them all at once.

Are the subframe bushes the most critical? If I don't replace them all at the same time, what should the order of piority be?

One's I got from Woody are black. Haven't installed yet. I'd say the swaybar and inner links are the most important but that's just my opinion.

Hi Nick,

As Underdog says the anti-roll bar (swaybar) bushes probably have more effect on their own, unless others have rotted and gone oval. That's not just the 2 bushes on each end but also the 2 that mount the bar to the subframe. Expect a lot of pushing, grunting and use of trolley jacks to refit the bar as by their nature these bushes aren't as compliant.

The 2 track control arm bushes at the front and all 8 on the rear are the next best. The rear axle can become self steering when all the rubber perishes.

The front subframe bushes aren't as critical but the whole lower suspension including anti-roll bar mounts to it. I found replacing these bushes very easy and it helped to tighten up the steering.

Purple's for the 2L auto,Odd,which i use more as a comfy GT than an
out and out animal-got the 4.6 for that!
No zinc,just loads of hammerite and rust inhibitive primer!

There are 2 types of polyeurethene kits sold in the UK. One is Polybush, all the bushes in the kit are one grade of hardness although there are different kits,(blue, orange and red). The other make is Superpro, in these kits there are different grades of hardness(usually 2) to suit the different parts of the cars suspension. I dont know which are best but until recently I was baffled as to which kits to try.
In the past I haver used both orange and blue Poly bushes and prefered the slight flex of the blue, on a higher performance car I would imagine the harder orange would cut out any flex on accelleration.

There is also Superflex. I have used these on the Saab in the past. Just noticed on their website that they also do poly sun visor clips, must improve the handling and go faster!

Got the blue ones in my DHC too (SuperPro)
Did improve handling significantly without becoming harsh ...
