Whats the best books on TR7 resto.?

I,m starting my first ever TR7 restoration and I don't know what the best book I should get before I start. I found on the web How to restore Triumph TR7/8 and How to Improve your Triumph, by Roger Williams. Or are there any better? What I'm doing is a ground up resto and installing a Buick Turbo V6 any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Don

Hey, Don -

Williams' book is great. I used Bill Piggott's <i> Original TR7 & TR8 </i> - very authoritative. And the newer one, <i> TR7 - The Untold Story </i> , by David Knowles (I think that's right) is another good one. Piggott's book goes into detail about what colors, options, standard equipment, etc. came on the cars. If originality is your goal, apart from your engine swap, then that's the book to have.

Don't take every word in the books by the letter!
There's some, more or less grave, wrong statements in (all of?) them.
As a tidbit I'll mention the classic (but rather unimportant) one:
"red warning spot" on the "unleaded" filler cap. Truth is: that's a Sherpa diesel fuel filler cap... [:)]

But when you've bought (and read through!) <u>all</u> of them, you'll feel much more confident in
taking on the path that lay ahead! Together they're a fountain of information to have!
So get yourself the following:

Make lots of pictures while dismantling the car and use loads of small (and labelled) boxes to keep the parts together and sorted.

These two are the most important ones, but as Odd states don't believe everything that's written there. Just use them as a guideline.

The most important tools/books in dismantling and restoring your car is a digital camera, sticky labels and plastic baggies, factory manual from Bentley (or now Brooklands I believe). This might be the same as the Repair Operations Manual mentioned. Follow suggestions already mentioned.

Most imortant piece of advise? Take a picture of each piece as you disassemble. Do not assume you will remenber how it goes back together because you will not. Label parts LH or RH reguardless as some parts are handed and some are not.

I think the Rimmers catalogue is a big help when re assembling a TR7. The Haynes manual is also usefull. Roger Williams book actually shows you how to do the jobs on the car parts before re assembly.

Believe it or not, the British Victoria or Moss catalogs are great helps as they give you exploded view of most of the car's assemblies.

Just about anything you need to do on your can has been done by at least one person here on the Forum, so don't be bashful and not ask questions!
