Postby nick » 05 Jan 2009 00:29

What is the purpose of these spacers? They are on ebay but I had not seen them previously.

The only spacer used on the front suspension I have seen are for the TR8s. They put an aluminum spacer between the top subframe bushing and the body so the carbs will not hit the bonnet/hood.

The spacers I have for the TR8, or 7V8 subframe lowering kit are
round, like the subframe bushes. Although the photo is not very
clear on my monitor, I don't think these are they.

There are anti-dive kits, that go between the anti roll bar front
mount, & the front sub frame, thus lowering the mounting point of
the bar. These are reputed to reduce the nose diving under heavy
braking. This photo looks a bit more like those, but too much like
the ones I have, on the 8.

I don't think they did much on the 8, but they were part of a number
of changes, done at the same time, so I can't be sure. However, the
7, which does not have them, does not dive any more than the 8,
which does.

If it's not either of these, I have no idea, & I await being made
wiser, by someone who does know.

These parts are for factory lower subframe bushes (part no. 159209). They are metal inserts which fit inside the bush to prevent it being crushed between the washers.

Yep, they are the little cylinders that you push inside the subframe bushes. Polybush kits come with these complete.

I've got to get a new monitor. Even knowing what they are, I can't
see it.

I don't think it's your monitor. I can't see them either. Maybe it's just age.

Peri, much as we would love to have you, apart from motoring, your
much too young, & sexy for the old buggers forum.

I think the hot young jocks forum would be a better match for you,
even if you can't decipher a bad photo.

Our Tr club has an acronym for us old guys...FOGs. Last two letters are Old Guys. I'll let you all figure out what the F stands for. Anyway, you need to be 50 to qualify for FOGdom. So Peri, you are still safe. [:D]
