Anyone see this before?

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 30 Dec 2008 16:11

Called by someone a "TR9 Triumph Jetfire"
r
Note, one piece fiberglass bonnet that flips forward like the Spitfire and pop-up square headlights that use the original motors. Frenched in door handles and very different tail lights.

What a weird story. The insurance co gave him that car to replace the normal TR7 that was written of by their drunk policy holder. I'd have asked for the cash.

I'm not saying the Jetfire car isn't interesting but if it is also spectacularly ugly. It looks like the engineering train disconnected the design carriage & kept on going until they ran out of steam.

I think we'd all like a pop-up bonnet though. [:p]

No Sir I don't like it!
I don't care for that red stuff splattered on all over bonnet!
Those door handles are bloody awful!
The headlights are hideous, they look like it's wearing a gimp mask!
The tail lights when finished will at least be neat, not to my taste mind you but one of the better tail light transplants I've seen on these cars. Are they by chance off a '90s Mustang?

80'Triumph TR7, , 73'Land Rover (Ford 351. V8),
'89 Ford Fairlane
85'Alfa 90, 69'Ford F250.
76' Ford F100
I sold the '61 International AA120 to a mate.. he hasn't paid for it yet!
Sold the Jag XJ12 too

I asked him about the tail lights and here is the response...Paul

If you check out the decal on the deck lid, it's actually a rare uncrushed late 70s TR9 prototype for the American market that we were restoring.

When I got the car, it came with sketches of the design from the 1-off original artist. I had a friend of mine in California custom fabricate them to match the drawings-they're one of a kind.

The car also came with a rather clumsy bolt-on fiberglas hard top that required two to lift/install/remove and in concern for the paint, I had an old top (shown) put on it temporarily until a new stock one could be fabricated.

The tail lights were outboard, turn signals in the middle and back up lights on the inside. I almost started a car fire trying to wire them myself.

I've long ago lost track of the car, I've heard rumors it was destroyed in a house fire in New York.

read the description around the photo, it also came with a Spitfire style bonnet that pivoted up and forward on the bumper (note the clips and seam forward of the front doors

A decal proves nothing especially when the font is wrong & it is not put on straight.

There is no mention of a TR9 prototype in The Untold Story so it seems unlikely that this was a factory prototype. Possibly a BL dealer group project but more likely to be a one-off created by people with no relation to BL.
