The one eyed monster is back

Postby Philip » 22 Dec 2008 06:30

No, not that one.

Why is it that whenever I do one job on the car, it responds by finding another problem for me. My drivers side headlamp wont lift (again!). It lights up the road nicely, but nothing else.

Still standing !

I so-can relate. Ive had that problem on almost every wedge Ive owned. I think everyone was electrical-related 'cept for my last TR8, one of the switches on the side of the lift-motor went bad.

More than once, it was the (dash) switch. Each time I pulled the switch, fully disassembled, cleand-lubed and reassembled. Corrosion was the prob. Once or twice it was the plug at the headlight end, corrosion again. Only one other time it was a shaved wire in the harness between the dash switch and the headlight assly.

One other time it was the motor itself. But that was on a car that had been in an accident, and the (headlamp) motor was all but destroyed inside due to the impact. Worked for a little while, but then finally died.

Yaaaay - fixed ! Cleaned up the earths and that seemed to do the trick, either that or me threatening them with a rubber mallet scared them into submission. Now the hazard flashers dont work but the indicators do - after a new flaher unit, that is. Give me strength !

The Hazard Flasher (behind glove box)is separate from the indicator flasher (behind instrument panel). Two in total.

You can get a good wiring diagram from my download site.
