car cover recommendations?

Postby humanoid » 13 Dec 2008 01:43

We've moved and I have to keep the 7 outdoors. Is there a car cover that any of you could recommend? I live in Southern California where the sun shines about 300 days out of the year. I was hoping to get one that's waterproof and breathable as well.

I tried to get something similar for my motorbike a few years ago. The Aussie guy behind the counter asked if I'd like the moon on a stick as well.

What about one of them pole-garages (like a car port) like the ones Sears or Harbor Freight sells? Ya know, bucha lightweight poles and a tarp-like cover, just to keep the sun/rain off of it? They can be found for little-money.

Those canopies won't do, I have to keep the 7 in a confined space and those canopies take up too much space. Any other thoughts?

Humanoid,

I ordered the best one Victoria British offers and it has done well for me for the last 6 months. Here in Maine it's rain, rain, ice, snow, sun and rain. Since my 7 is also outside right now (most of the time, actually)it's kept the interior dry and the exterior looking good (new paint in May).

Best wishes and I hope Santa leaves a nice car cover for you. [:D]

-been eye-balling this on ebay lately .....i like the concept, but it's a little pricey in my mind......but sure does beat the full car-cover!

Do a google search and you'll come up with lots of companies selling car covers. They basically come in three types. Indoors - for keeping dust off when parked in garage, Outdoors - UV resistant and breathable, keeps the occasional light rain off, Outdoors All Weather - UV resistant and keeps heavy rain and snow off. As you go from indoor to all weather type the cost increases. As I have my car indoors I have a cheap car cover to keep off dust (although I havn't use it yet as car is worked on throughout the winter getting it ready for spring.) One year.

The December issue of Practical Classics had a test of car covers. the recommendation was 'Classic Additions Lightweight Cover' which was waterproof and breathable, not too cheap at £97-116. (www.classicadditions.com) Almost as good was the Tyvek Top Cover (£70-100). Others are people like Covercraft (www.covercraft-europe.com)and Hamilton (www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk).

I bought an 'RAC Approved' water proof and breathable cover from evilbay for about £40 to cover my 7 when it is kept in the drive over the 'summer'. It was fine for the first year but this year seemed to develop small holes, not sure if it is weathering or the birds. Its still reasonably watertight, but will need replacing next year. Also needs removing weekly as it did get some condensation on the car sometimes.

NOID, in our neck of the woods http://calcarcover.com . They should be able to fix you up just fine. I got one for a Trans-Am the lived in the high dersert for about three years in the wind and sun. The high desert has sun 364 days along with frequent high winds. [8D]

I recently bought a custom cover for my Spitfire from
www.WolfAutoCovers.com I very happy with the quality of the cover and the price was a bit better than others and the cheapest price was directly from their website. And yes, they list custom covers for TR7s.
