Interesting Comparison!

Postby gordon kerr » 12 Dec 2008 17:14

<font color="green">There is an interesting(?) comparison between Woolworths and the TR7 in this article from the Northern Echo

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/3 ... he_coffin/

For those who might not want to read the whole article the comparison is

<font color="blue"><i>With its charmingly eccentric product mix – which ranged from plastic shower curtains to ownbrand LPs – Woolworths felt as British as a Triumph TR7.

Unfortunately, history shows that its business plans were just as unreliable as the famously untrustworthy sports car.</i></font id="blue">

Make of that what you will!</font id="green">

Clearly mr. Burton doesn't know what he's <s>talking</s> writing about [:p]

Quite why that comparison was used is bizarre, when I talk about TR7s nowadays no one knows what they are. I think the chappy should have compared Wollies to a modern day car boot sale............that's why it has gone down the pan.

Shauniedawn,

Your photo "Em on Bantam" looks just like the old Harley Davidson Hummer I had in high school. I believe the Hummers actually came from England. Does anyone know if that is correct?

Not real sure what a Hummer is. Harley had a small bike that was made in Italy though.

Hiya

It's a BSA Bantam. I'm sorry, but I'm not well up on Harleys, so can't shed any light for you.

The reason they look similar is that the Harley Hummer, BSA Bantam and god only knows how many other post WWII bikes were copies of the German DKW. Spoils of war, as it were. Hummer was made in USA. Bantam in Britain.

Two good sites are:

Regards,

M.
