2 liter DCOE/Dellorto pumbing question

Postby alex79 » 08 Dec 2008 15:47

Hello from a newbie! Well, even though this is my first post, I have been poking around for quite some time and enjoy the tech. talk. Now I have a question that the archives could not answer for me.

I have a 2X DCOE/Dellorto intake manifold for the 2 liter that I want to use for a fuel injection conversion using the DCOE style throttle bodies. But I have no way to plumb the radiator hose. I was going to make something up somehow when I saw a Dellorto setup on Australia’s eBay. There is a remote thermostat housing that should come with this intake that I do not have. I’ve looked for this setup for a while now, and could not find anything. Here in the US, the majority of finds is a V6/V8 conversion. Not much on improving the 4. Does anyone here have a source for this remote housing or at least pictures of the DCOE/Dellorto setup installed on the 2 liter, specifically the radiator connection?

The link to the setup on eBay:

Hi I fitted twin webers to a 8valve 2 liter earlier in the year. The housing came with my manifold second hand. I dont have a supplier but it would be possible to fabricate something. It was not a lot of fun plumbing it up. I will try to post some pics on the weekend
Cheers Troy

Should be the same as the Weber thermostat housing. This was manufactured for TriumphTune which is now part of Moss. You may find S&S have them available too.

Would appreciate the pictures. If I can’t find the thermo housing, I’ll fabricate something. I just wanted a neat as possible installation. I don’t want to raise too much suspicion when I go for an inspection. The guys who inspect really don’t know about these cars, so I generally don’t have to worry. But if something seems cobbled up, then here comes the questions. Since the 2X DCOE manifold does not have any provisions for the EGR valve, I don’t want questions.

Here in the states, the only Weber intakes (inlet for the Brits) are add on adapters for the stock Stromberg intake. So, there is no replacement thermo housing. I checked with Moss Europe, but did not find anything.

S&S??? Who are they, and do they have a website??

Hi Alex79, I fitted a set of Dell'orto's to my 8valve which are now on my Sprint engine. I think the photo you need is:-

Let me know if you need any others. The unit actually bolts to the place where the front lifting eye was.

Kind regards

Gary

Thanks! These pictures do help. I did notice you guys who are responding are on the other (2) sides of the pond. I’m not surprised at all. This explains why I can’t get any info over here!!

Ngtf, is that a home made piece?

Hi Alex, yes it is homemade but does the job superbly well. A simple piece of metal welded in place solves the problem. Using existing mounting holes (in my case the lifting eye) made it simpler still especially when you bear in mind, I even used the original lifting eye mounting bolts. The eye has been kept for future "out of body" experiences. Note also the blanking plug (core plug) fitted to what was the spigot from water pump top cover to manifold. This was a core plug that is still in use today in the MX5 (Miata?)

As I said, more piccies are available if you require them.

Kind regards

Gary

Thanks Ngtf, I didn’t notice the pug on the pump until you mentioned it. I totally forgot that the pump connects to the manifold there! If you can get more pics, I could definitely use them. Now that I’m looking more, I noticed that you do not have a stock thermo outlet. How do you fill with coolant? Comparing it to Omichaelshar’s pic, the radiator hoses look different, or its just the pic. Do you have the large hose going to the right side too, or is it on the left side?

Thanks

Alex

Actually it is a stock unit. There were differences between early and late TR7's. Mine is definately a late fitment with no bleed valve on top. Omichaelshar's is the early one. If you need the early one just weld a bracket to that instead, it matters not which style you have as long as the one you modify and fit is the one you need.

PM me an email address and I will send whatever photo's I can of my installation.
