V8 parts should be rather cheap in the US of A

On the other hand searching E-bay might privode you with all the parts needed to convert an 8v engine 16v power rather cheap. Shipping cost might be the problem here.

And of course it depends on the engines spec/state of tune ...

I've seen Sprint conversion package on eBay stateside for about $1,000 but then you have to do what ever to the head as these are used parts. Not seen for a while now. Remember Sprints where not imported into N/A as they would not meet emissions.

V8's from a Land Rover or more rare a Rover 3500 may be able to be picked up at auto wreckers for cheap but then (unlike UK people) you have to look for crossmember (rare and not cheap), a bellhousing (rare and not cheap) a PS rack (rare and not cheap), brake upgrade. Better to buy a TR8.

A Buick V6 is bolt in with John's cars kit (about $600 I think). You can buy a whole car for about $500 for odd fire or even fire with 5 speed tranny or automatic (plenty of ass kicking power for either). With the complete car you can even have fuel injection on some of the later ones. Uses same crossmember, brakes (although upgrade is preferable if you want to drive it hard.)

Since any of the three upgrades results in not an original car it doesn't make much difference which way you go unless you want the pseudo original look of the Sprint or TR8.

How long is this peice of string?

You can buy the Rimmers V8 conversion kit for about $US2700 + freight + cost of the motor which would probably cost less than trying to do it by engineering & improvising.

I planned on veeate'ing my auto back then - i estimated it costing
£10,000 with a used engine and all the mods,without paint and body
work.Then i spotted the 4.6 at almost half the cost,already done -
no contest - buy a well sorted v8 conversion,you'll still wanna'
tinker with it,but at far less cost.

A bloke here, in Brisbane had one done professionally, including a
set of bearings, & a major head overhaul, for the 2Nd hand sprint
engine.

Included was cooling a system overhaul, all new rubber stuff, some
mods on the clutch, [can't remember what], & an extractor exhaust
ststem, [no stock gear in Oz].

He got no change from A$10,000.

Tim, two cars to work on, the Spider is FI, but not the other.

The second car is getting the Panasport wheels, the leather interior, the MK2 Styling kit, maybe fender flairs and pearl white paint.

I just want it to have a little more muph to go along with the looks.

Maybe I will just go with Ted's modified head and cam plus my Weber set-up and a nice header. I am hoping to keep it Triumph, but the guy across the street has a 98 Firebird sitting in his drive with a FI V6 that he can't get started. If I wait long enough, maybe he will get tired of it and want it to go bye-bye!

I think a Sprint conversion would be very nice, and relatively simple. This is a conversion I may consider some time in the future

When I bought my TR7 it had a 98 Firebird 2.8L V6 in it; what a butcher job the PO did putting it in.

Yes, you are probably right there Underdog.

The deal is I am on a very limited budget, as I can only spend so much a month. I have a rust free car sitting and all the other parts listed before. It will have to be stripped to be repainted. There is a maroon paint job on it now, but it is chipping away to show the original Posiden Green paint, the same color as my good car.

I am putting my good car back to original and and I am going to restore the Spider back to original. I just want the maroon car to be able to scare the cr@p out of the Honda drivers!

Not much point super-charging a Sprint engine - since the Sprint mods are designed to allow the engine to suck in more air, if you are going to blow the air in you may as well use a normal head and avoid all the Sprint complications !
