Join the Club? Which 1 I ask

When I bought my car, I got "Footman James" insurance info off the seller and when I rang to get the insurance they said if I joined the TSSC I'd get extra benefits & breakdown cover. Great, but I have been recently really disappointed that the last "Courier" mag didn't even have the "7" section in it. What a waste of time (in my opinion) They had even taken pics of my car at the Stafford show yet didn't bother to mention the 7's at all.
So what is the best club if you have a 7 and can you still get the added benefit of breakdown cover at a reduced rate? If you only love 7's then the rest is just boring(I think).

Got agree with you there Paul, definitly the best club for wedge coverage.
Debs, my insurance on our two wedges includes breakdown cover so if you want the name of the insurance company let me know.

I just showed my car at the Houston MG All British Car Show. It was set up at a shopping center with all the MGs right in the middle of the court yard and all the Triumphs down one side of the shops, except the TR7s Which were placed at the back of the shopping center separated from the other cars by a big group of shops.

Just before the judging started, they moved us over by an old ratted out Jensen-Healey and the only Stag, but all the other Triumph owners moved away from us at the seating area.

yep TRDC is the only true club for the 7 but don't forget getting cheaper insurance is only part of it............theres a great mag jam packed with wedge stuff and...........

and they have just quoted for myself and my wife fully comp shes 38 im 37 its a 3rd vehicle restricted 3000miles pa agreed valuation of £4000 all for the pricey sum of £78 i'm not knocking footman james but they just quoted me £127 granted that was including breakdown cover but i didn't want that as i'm with the RAC anyway.....
but for £78 and nearly £50 cheaper guess which one i'll be going with

Well if you can spare the pennies and magazine reading time then i'd join BOTH TR Drivers Club as suggested above AND the TR Register.

I find that as a larger organisation the register offers more in the way of insurance benefits and events to get your car along to. Also the local club scene is stronger in most areas. BUT you really cant beat the TRDC for wedge enthusiasm and by joining both you tend to get real benefit of the two clubs complimenting each other.

If your into driving events rather than polishing and standing in fields then Club Triumph is worth a look too....

<font color="green">Hi Deb, I have no problem with the thoughts put forward here but the decision you need to make should be based on what you want from a club and which of the clubs is best able to provide those things in the area you live. What each of the different clubs provide does vary widely across the country so there isn't IMHO a single answer as to which is the best club to join that would apply everywhere in the UK. Locally to me I have found the club that does most and does the things I want to do (and are a great bunch of people as well) is Club Triumph. However I know that there are lots of areas where the answer would be different. Most of the clubs are quite happy for non members to come along to their meets and on their runs for at least a few times before they would insist you should join so why not find out what is going on around where you are and go along a few times before you decide? If you tell us where in the UK you are you might well find someone on here who is near you and who could advise what's happening locally from personal experience.

On the other hand if all you want is the mags, the insurance discounts and that sort of thing then the choice is a bit wider and TRDrivers, Club Triumph (lots of TR7 fans but covers all Triumphs) and TR Rgeister (all TRs in theory but some local areas seem to have no time for 7's) could all fit the bill for you.

deb, i thnk you will find that Footman James will give you a discount as long as you belong to one of the recognised clubs, eg TR Drivers, Club Triumph, TR Register etc. Just tell them which one.

I gave up membership of the TSSC for the same reasons as you mention - they seem to have have very little interest in the TR7. For what its worth, I joined TR Drivers & Club Triumph - both have active TR7 membership but I would have to say that TR Drivers is probably the most wedge oriented club IMHO.

Hi Deb,
Got to be TRDC, been a member for 20 years and as far 'Wedge' coverage its second to none, TR Reg great glossy mag but limited Wedge stuff, having said that they are stuck for a TR7/8 register at the moment so could account for that.
Classic Car Show at NEC soon, have a look and chat at all the clubs stands if you are going.
Speaking of which anyone up for meeting up on the TRDC stand at some point [?] [?] [?] mid afternoonish [?] [?] Put some faces to names, maybe not such a good idea for some [;)]

The TR Drivers club is already got a discounted scheme with Footman James for members of the club. I am also a member of the TR Register but find that the TR Drivers club insurance scheme gives me the best price and is also cheaper to be a member at £25 per year/ no joining fee.

If you want I can send you some mags to let you make your mind up, just email with your name and address details and I will do the rest

If it's just cheaper insurance you're after you don't actually have to belong to any club. I shopped around this year and have managed to cut my TR7 insurance by 60% going to a company that didn't insist on club membership. Give ClassicLine a call on 01455 639000. Previously I was insured through Towergate, couldn't see any extra benefits and certainly saved one heck of a wedge[:D]

The TR Drivers club insurance scheme is very good for young drivers, my son has had a TR7 since he was 17 and has always been on it at a very competitive premium. I pay £85 per car not bothered to shop around so I am not sure how this compares to other schemes.

TR Drivers club second to none on the TR7 front without doubt

TR register depending on area for the social scene.

Both are equal for Insurance discount i've found
