A couple weeks ago we applied body filler and primed our TR7 project.

I took yesteday off knowing that it was to be a nice warm day. I went out to the garage around 7 am and started sanding: 80, 180, 300, 600, 1000; on the body, doors and boot, and by noon I was finished sanding and had wiped down the car. On to the paint.

At the last moment, my son decided that he didn't want to paint the car like the BL rallye cars, but in Mimosa yellow instead. Well I tell you, I kept thinking that I could still see the grey primer through the yellow after the third coat. I think in total I have 5 coats of colour on the car and at the time I was still not sure I had good coverage.

Well it all turned out okay and I knew that the colour turned out well because when my son arrived home from school at 3:30, minutes after I finished cleaning the paint gun, he had a huge smile on his face[:)]. Wow, I didn't think I did that good of a job (I didn't there are a couple runs).

So we still have the bonnet to sand down and paint but now the winter can be spent putting the car back together.

But well done getting it done in a day!

ye come on lets see some piccis ....... its a great feeling to get the paint on and seeing it change before your eyes.... as for the runs you mention even the pro's get them from time to time they'll probs flat out when you buff it up

I just added a couple photos to my photo album (not showing up yet).

It does feel good to have the car painted; one BIG step completed. Now it's time to start ordering rubber bits; I'm guessing that all the suspension bushings and such need to be replaced.

Good time to upgrade to poly instead of rubber. Tightens up suspension with out going to stiffer springs, lasts longer.

I too await the pictures with baited breath.

Poly is the plan. At this moment I am assuming that all bushings need replacing; pretty good assumption based on what my Spitfire and MGBGT were like. Where's the best place to buy poly bushings from?

Last Friday when I brought home the paint my step son wanted to see the colour, so I dipped a piece of paper in and smeared it on the top of the can. Both of us thought to ourselves that it had more of a green tinge than we were expecting. Well, I can tell you that the painted doors in bright sunlight are a very nice yellow.

After you perfect your painting skills on the VW (your next project), but I think this one will be close, I will let you do the MGBGT up here.
