can you use the earlier stalks on a later 1980 car?

A couple of yeras ago, as part of work on my '80 DHC I bought a NOS set of indicator/wiper stalks that were for a LHD early car.

Bear in mind that the stalks changed sides on RHD cars when the later style was introducd. By using a set from an early LHD car I got the controls on the correct side(i.e indicator to the left & wiper to the right).

Both stalks fitted straight onto the steering column, exactly the same fixings. The indicator plugged into the loom connection without a problem, but the wiper had the loom plug opposite to what was needed (so it was male plug on the stalk & male plug on the loom). The plugs were the same shape & the wires were in exactly the same colours & positions in the plug, just needed to cut the male plug of one side & replace with the corresponding female plug.

This difference in the plugs could be because the set was for a LHD car, I have not seen a set from a RHD car. So, I should think you could fit the early controls, but just be aware that you might need to swap loom plugs.
