Somewhat funny electrical story

Postby mb4tim » 21 Sep 2008 03:09

So, I decided to install the radio that came with the car. First off, it will be replaced over the winter.

I pulled out the console, and looked at the butchered mess of black tape and wires. Cleaned it up a bit with some heat shrink, and started poking around for a switched hot wire and a constant hot wire. Found the constant with no issue, and test every other wire in there for a switched lead...no luck.

So, I noticed three leads for the blower, one thin and two thick, all switched-they had juice with the key on, none with the key off-perfect.

I figured, I'll use the middle one, as the first was too thin, and when it's cold, I'll want the high-speed fan. Stripped off a little insulation in the wire, made little rabbit hole in the strands to pass my radio lead through, did some twisting, tape and heat-shrink.

Ah..... the radio works just fine...until I turn the blower on...d-oh!!

Looks like I'll find a new switched power lead when I replace the old radio.
