Hello guys, I'm Jane and I'm about to take ownership of a gorgeous 1981 TR7 DHC (sounds a bit like hello I'm Jane and I'm an alcoholic lol).

This is not my first foray into classics, I drove a 72 Morris Minor for a few years so I'm quite used to the pitfalls of older cars, but the 7 was the car of my dreams when I was a kid and when this one came up I knew I had to own it.

This will be the 2nd TR in the family, and the start of a bitter rivalry with my husband who is 3/4 of the way through restoring a TR6....this may yet end in divorce lol

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi in preparation for the future love and care of my new baby, Foster (yes, Im one of those sad women that names her cars...!) I have been stalking the forum for a week or so picking up tips!

My TR7 was my dream car, too. I wanted it sooooooo badly when I was 18 and my father nixed the idea. Many years later I took ownership of one and love the little beastie...

It was my Dad's fault actually.... I got a bit teary when I knew I was getting the car.

When I was about 8 or 9 Dad used to walk me into the local town on a saturday, and we passed a white 7 on the way. Every week I'd admire this car until one day he crossed the road with me and let me see it close up. I loved them from that day on and its a memory I always associated with him. He passed away in March, but I can imagine he would have had a good laugh if he had been here now! I can almost here him saying "Its an improvement on the minor!"

Welcome to the forum Jane, always glad to see a new owner on here. There are a number of females on the forum, Peri of course, Mildred who is a plethora of information, Linda, a new owner like yourself. Most of here have wanted a TR7 in our younger years and have finally got to own one. There are many helpfull hands here and a lot of first hand experience. We're only too happy answer any questions that come up.

The other day, I was pointing out to my youngest daughter that her
car could stand a bit of a clean. When I pointed to the thick dirt
in the foot wells, she told me she was saving it to grow a crop of
wheat in there, once petrol got too dear for her to buy.

I don't think she will ever really like a car.

My dream car when I was a nipper was a Stag. Since then I've had 5 Triumps - none of them Stags. So good to hear someone knows how to follow their dreams.

My wedge moment happened on the telly. TR7 V8's were on a BBC rallysprint on Grandstand. They died going through a watersplash but looked and sounded so great.

I bought my 7 DHC back in 1986. It was the cheapest 2 seater that offered a bit of performance and I could just about afford it. 22 years later and it's still with me, albeit in V8 form. One of us has aged better than the other....

To reply to a few comments, firstly, alcohol was at the forefront of my mind when I was a morris minor owner. Oh for the days of de-icing the inside of my windscreen at 7.30am because it was the only car I had and used all year round. The extra hour factored into the tesco shop to contend with men over the age of 70 who wanted to reminisce! I did love the car, but yes, somedays alcohol was a good option (and not just for cleaning!!)

We are members of the TR Register with the TR6, but we have never actualy had it on the road [V] Its been garaged now for about 4 years, but work finally started in earnest about 4 months ago and its starting to resemble a roadworthy car. With this in mind we never really went to shows, if we did I would go in the Minor while husband sat embarrassed trying to disassociate with me hehe

I pick foster up on Saturday morning. She needs a few things to bring her up to scratch, but she has 12 months MOT on her and only 49000 miles (she has been in storage for 12 years from what I can gather and is completely original even down to the garage name on the numberplate). Im incredibly excited, yet terribly worried about my ability to be able to see over the dashboard!!

Hopefully Ill post some nice photos over the weekend.
